Tea Rubbed Ham Rolls
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons black tea rubs (a mixture of black tea leaves, brown sugar, paprika, salt, and black pepper)
- 1 large ham steak, about 1 pound
- 8 slices of white or whole wheat bread
- 1/4 cup Dijon mustard
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
- 1/2 cup sliced dill pickles
- 1/2 cup baby spinach leaves
- 1/4 cup honey
Instructions:
Prepare the Tea Rub:
- Combine the black tea rubs ingredients in a small bowl.
Rub the Ham:
- Pat the ham steak dry with paper towels. Apply the tea rub mixture evenly on both sides of the ham steak.
Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Bake the Ham:
- Place the ham steak on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until heated through and slightly crispy on the outside.
Prepare the Bread:
- While the ham is baking, trim the crusts off the bread slices. Spread one side of each bread slice with a layer of Dijon mustard and the other side with mayonnaise.
Assemble the Rolls:
- On each bread slice, layer with shredded Swiss cheese, followed by a slice of the baked ham steak, a few slices of dill pickles, and a handful of baby spinach leaves.
Roll Up the Bread:
- Roll up the bread tightly from one end to the other, creating a log shape. Secure with toothpicks if necessary.
Glaze and Bake:
- In a small bowl, mix the honey with 1 tablespoon of water. Brush the honey glaze over the outside of each roll. Place the rolls seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Bake the Rolls:
- Bake in the preheated oven for an additional 10-12 minutes, or until the rolls are golden and the cheese is melted.
Serve:
- Remove from the oven and let the rolls cool for a few minutes before serving.
