German Tarte Flambée

Ingredients:

  • 1 thin flatbread or pizza base

  • 100 g sour cream or crème fraîche

  • 80 g diced bacon

  • ½ onion (thinly sliced or diced)

  • 50 g mozzarella cheese (optional)

  • A small handful of fresh chives or scallions, finely chopped

  • Salt & black pepper, to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Base
    Roll out the flatbread very thin (even thinner than pizza) and place it on a baking tray.

  2. Spread the Cream
    Evenly spread sour cream or crème fraîche over the base. Season lightly with salt and black pepper.

  3. Add the Toppings
    Sprinkle bacon and onions evenly on top. Add mozzarella cheese if desired.

  4. Bake
    Preheat oven to 220°C (430°F). Bake for 10–12 minutes until golden and crispy at the edges.

  5. Finish
    Sprinkle with fresh chives or scallions before serving.

Tips:

  • Traditional Flammkuchen is light and doesn’t require cheese, but you can add mozzarella for extra flavor.

  • Try adding mushrooms or ham for tasty variations.
