Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon black tea powder
  • 1 pound beef sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup chili sauce (or to taste for spiciness)
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup cold water (for thickening sauce)
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, freshly ground
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced (optional)
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced (optional)
  • Chopped green onions for garnish

Instructions:

Prepare the Black Tea Marinade:

  • In a small bowl, mix the black tea powder with 1/2 cup of hot water. Allow the tea to steep for 3-4 minutes, then strain and let it cool.

Marinate the Beef:

  • Place the sliced beef in a bowl and pour the cooled black tea over it. Let the beef marinate for at least 30 minutes.

Prepare the Sauce:

  • In a small bowl, mix together the beef broth, soy sauce, chili sauce, oyster sauce, tomato paste, and water. Set aside.

Cook the Beef:

  • Heat the vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry until it begins to brown, about 2 minutes. Remove the beef from the wok and set aside.

Make the Spicy Sauce:

  • In the same wok, add the chopped onion, garlic, and ginger. Stir-fry until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  • Add the prepared sauce mixture to the wok and bring to a boil. Stir in the cornstarch mixed with cold water to thicken the sauce.

Combine and Finish:

  • Return the beef to the wok, stirring to coat it with the spicy sauce. Add the sliced bell peppers (if using) and cook for another 2-3 minutes until the peppers are tender.
  • Season with black pepper and salt to taste. Remove from heat.

Serve:

  • Serve the spicy beef in sauce over rice or noodles, garnished with chopped green onions.
  • Enjoy your Spicy Beef in Sauce with a subtle black tea flavor, perfect for a hearty meal or when you're craving something with a kick.
