Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon black tea powder
  • 2 ribeye or sirloin steaks (about 8 ounces each)
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup red wine vinegar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon black peppercorns, crushed
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon coriander seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 Kirby cucumbers, sliced
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish

Instructions:

Prepare the Black Tea Marinade:

  • In a small bowl, mix theblack tea powder  with 1/2 cup of hot water. Allow the tea to steep for 3-4 minutes, then strain and let it cool.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the cooled black tea, olive oil, minced garlic, salt, and freshly ground black pepper to create a marinade.

Marinate the Steak:

  • Add the steaks to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or up to 4 hours.

Prepare the Pickled Cucumber:

  • In a saucepan, combine the red wine vinegar, sugar, crushed black peppercorns, mustard seeds, coriander seeds, ground turmeric, cayenne pepper (if using), and water. Bring to a boil, stirring until the sugar is dissolved.
  • Place the sliced cucumbers in a heatproof container. Pour the hot vinegar mixture over the cucumbers and let them cool to room temperature. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or up to 24 hours to allow the flavors to develop.

Grill the Steak:

  • Preheat your grill or grill pan to high heat. Remove the steaks from the marinade and let any excess drip off. Season both sides with additional black pepper.
  • Grill the steaks for 3-4 minutes per side for medium-rare, or to your desired doneness. Let the steaks rest for 5 minutes before slicing.

Serve:

  • Serve the sliced steak with the pickled cucumbers on the side. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley.
  • Enjoy your Black Pepper Steak with a hint of black tea flavor and tangy pickled cucumbers, perfect for a special dinner or a date night in.
