Cantonese Satay Beef Hot Pot Recipe
Ingredients:
- 6g green tea BBQ seasonings
- 1 lb thinly sliced beef (sirloin or flank)
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon grated ginger
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 cup water
- 2 tablespoons satay sauce (available in Asian markets)
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
- Assorted hot pot ingredients (such as tofu, mushrooms, leafy greens, enoki mushrooms, bok choy, etc.)
- Steamed rice or noodles, for serving
Instructions:
Prepare the Beef:
- Pat the beef slices dry with paper towels. Season both sides with the green tea BBQ seasonings. Set aside while preparing the hot pot base.
Make the Hot Pot Base:
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot or hot pot over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic and grated ginger, and cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
Add the Broth and Seasonings:
- Pour in the beef broth and water. Bring the mixture to a boil.
- Stir in the satay sauce, oyster sauce, soy sauce, sugar, and white pepper. Adjust the seasoning to taste.
Cook the Beef and Other Ingredients:
- Add the seasoned beef slices to the hot pot base and cook until just done, about 1-2 minutes per side.
- Add other hot pot ingredients such as tofu, mushrooms, and leafy greens. Cook until tender.
Serve:
- Serve the hot pot over steamed rice or noodles. Garnish with fresh cilantro or green onions for added freshness.
