Smoked Tea-Infused Pork Cutlets
A flavorful and aromatic dish with tender pork cutlets infused with the subtle smokiness of tea, offering a perfect balance of savory and umami-rich flavors.
Ingredients (serves 3):
-
9g BBQ tea seasoning (either black tea or green tea, adds a subtle smoky aroma and enhances flavor)
-
500g pork cutlets (about 1.5-2cm thick)
-
2 tbsp vegetable oil
-
1 tbsp minced garlic
-
1 tbsp minced ginger
-
1 tbsp soy sauce
-
1 tbsp oyster sauce
-
1 tbsp honey
-
1 tsp sesame oil
-
1 tsp black pepper
-
1 cup hot water
-
1 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
-
Optional garnish: chopped green onions, sesame seeds
Method:
Prepare the Pork Cutlets:
-
Pat the pork cutlets dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. In a bowl, mix soy sauce, oyster sauce, honey, salt, black pepper, and BBQ tea seasoning. Rub the mixture evenly onto both sides of the pork cutlets. Let them rest for 10 minutes to allow the flavors to penetrate.
Sear the Pork Cutlets:
-
Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add minced garlic and ginger and stir-fry until fragrant, about 1 minute.
-
Place the pork cutlets in the skillet and sear for 3-4 minutes on each side until a golden-brown crust forms.
-
Add hot water to the skillet, cover, and reduce the heat to medium-low. Simmer for about 10-12 minutes until the pork is fully cooked and tender.
Finish and Serve:
-
Transfer the pork cutlets to a serving plate.
-
If desired, you can thicken the remaining sauce in the skillet by simmering it for a few minutes until it reduces slightly. Drizzle the sauce over the pork cutlets.
-
Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds (if using).
-
Serve hot with steamed rice or your favorite side dish.
Chef's Notes:
-
The BBQ tea seasoning adds a unique smoky depth to the pork without overpowering its natural flavor. It enhances the overall taste experience.
-
For extra flavor, you can marinate the pork cutlets in the tea seasoning mixture for up to 30 minutes before cooking.
-
Leftovers? Store the remaining pork cutlets in the refrigerator. Reheat gently in a pan with a little water or broth to keep them moist and flavorful.
-
This dish is perfect for a family dinner or a weekend meal. The combination of tender pork and aromatic tea seasoning creates a delightful and memorable dish. Enjoy!
