Ingredients:
For the Tea Infusion:
1 tablespoon honey or sugar-15g
For the Bread:
2 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)
1 packet of active dry yeast
1 teaspoon salt-5g
1/4 cup olive oil or melted butter
1/2 cup warm water (about 110°F/45°C)
Method:
1. Activate the Yeast:
In a small bowl, combine the warm water and 1 teaspoon of sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the water and let it sit for 5-10 minutes, until frothy. This indicates that the yeast is active.
2. Mix the Dough:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, black tea seasoning, honey, and olive oil to the flour. Stir until the dough comes together. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic. Alternatively, you can use a stand mixer with a dough hook for 5-7 minutes.
3. First Rise:
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
4. Shape the Bread:
Punch down the dough and shape it into a round or oval loaf. Alternatively, divide it into smaller portions for individual rolls. Place the shaped dough on a parchment-lined baking sheet or in a greased loaf pan.
5. Second Rise:
Cover the shaped dough loosely with a cloth and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes, until puffy.
6. Bake the Bread:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the bread for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom. For smaller rolls, bake for 20-25 minutes. Let the bread cool on a wire rack before slicing.
