Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup warm water (100-110°F or 38-43°C)
1 teaspoon sugar-5g
1 teaspoon salt-5g
2 teaspoons olive oil-30g
1 teaspoon active dry yeast-5g
Instructions
1. Activate the Yeast
In a small bowl, mix the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
2. Make the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, black tea seasoning, and olive oil to the flour. Mix until a sticky dough forms.
3. Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, add a small amount of flour as needed.
4. Let the Dough Rise
Lightly grease a bowl with olive oil. Place the dough in the bowl, turning it to coat with oil.
Cover the bowl with a damp towel or plastic wrap and let the dough rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until it doubles in size.
5. Shape the Pita
Preheat the oven to 475°F (245°C) and place a baking sheet or pizza stone in the oven to heat.
Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 6-8 equal portions.
Roll each portion into a ball and flatten it into a circle about 1/4-inch thick.
6. Bake the Pita
Place the dough circles on the hot baking sheet or stone and bake for 3-5 minutes. The pita should puff up and turn lightly golden.
Remove from the oven and cover with a clean towel to keep them soft.
This tea-flavored pita bread is perfect for serving with dips like hummus, and baba ghanoush, or as a base for wraps and sandwiches. It’s a delightful twist on a versatile classic!
