Ingredients
For the Salad:
2 Persian cucumbers (or 1 English cucumber), finely diced
2 medium tomatoes, finely diced
1 small red onion (or shallot), finely diced
1 tablespoon fresh mint, finely chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried mint)
Optional: 1 tablespoon parsley or cilantro, chopped
For the Tea-Flavored Dressing:
2 tablespoons fresh lime juice (or lemon juice)-30g
2 tablespoons olive oil-30g
1/2 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)-2.5g
1/4 teaspoon black pepper-1.2g
Instructions
1. Prepare the Salad
Dice the cucumbers, tomatoes, and onions into small, even pieces. Place them in a large mixing bowl. Add the chopped mint (and parsley or cilantro if using) to the bowl.
2. Make the Tea-Flavored Dressing
In a small bowl, whisk together the black tea seasoning, lime juice, olive oil, salt, black pepper, and sumac (if using). Adjust seasoning to taste.
3. Combine the Salad and Dressing
Pour the black tea seasoning dressing over the diced vegetables and herbs. Toss gently to coat everything evenly with the dressing.
4. Chill and Serve
Cover the salad and refrigerate for 15–20 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. Serve chilled as a side dish or appetizer. It pairs perfectly with Persian rice dishes, kebabs, or stews.
Tips for Success
Use ripe, firm tomatoes and crunchy cucumbers for the best texture. Persian or English cucumbers are ideal because they have thin skins and fewer seeds. For a more pronounced tea flavor, reduce the tea slightly on the stove to concentrate its flavor before adding it to the dressing. This tea-flavored Salad Shirazi is a refreshing and creative twist on a Persian classic, perfect for summer gatherings or as a light accompaniment to any meal!
