Crispy Masala Cheese Croquettes

Ingredients:

  • Potatoes – 2 medium, boiled and mashed

  • Cheese or cream cheese – 80–100 g (cut into small cubes)

  • Onion – finely chopped, small amount

  • Fresh cilantro – finely chopped

  • Chili powder – to taste

  • Cumin powder or garam masala – 1 tsp

  • Salt – to taste

For coating

  • All-purpose flour

  • Beaten egg

  • Breadcrumbs

For frying

  • Cooking oil

To serve (optional)

  • Lemon wedges

  • Yogurt dip

  • Tea BBQ rubs (for finishing or dipping)

Instructions

1. Prepare the potato mixture

In a bowl, combine mashed potatoes, chopped onion, cilantro, chili powder, cumin or garam masala, and salt.
Mix until well combined.

2. Fill with cheese

  • Take a small portion of the potato mixture, flatten it slightly, and place a cube of cheese in the center.
  • Seal and shape into a small log or round croquette.

3. Coat

Roll each croquette in flour, then dip into beaten egg, and finally coat evenly with breadcrumbs.

4. Fry

  • Heat oil to 170–180°C (340–355°F).
  • Fry croquettes in batches until golden brown and crispy on the outside.
  • Remove and drain excess oil.

5. Serve

  • Sprinkle lightly with chili powder and fresh cilantro.
  • Serve hot with lemon wedges, yogurt dip, or a light dusting of Tea BBQ rubs for a smoky, modern twist.
