Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons black tea rubs (a blend of black tea leaves, brown sugar, paprika, salt, and black pepper)
  • 1.5 pounds ground beef (80/20 lean to fat ratio)
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup grated cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Lettuce, tomato, and pickles, for serving
  • Mayonnaise and mustard, for serving

Instructions:

Prepare the Tea Rub:

  • Combine the black tea rubs ingredients in a small bowl.

Form the Burgers:

  • Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions. Form each portion into a patty, making a slight indentation in the center to prevent swelling during cooking.

Season the Burgers:

  • Press the tea rub mixture evenly onto both sides of each patty. Season with salt and pepper.

Preheat the Grill:

  • Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.

Grill the Burgers:

  • Place the burgers on the grill and cook for about 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare, or to your desired level of doneness. During the last minute of cooking, top each burger with grated cheddar cheese to melt.

Toast the Buns:

  • While the burgers are grilling, toast the hamburger buns on the grill or in a toaster.

Assemble the Burgers:

  • Spread mayonnaise and mustard on the bottom half of each bun. Add a layer of lettuce, tomato, and pickles. Place the grilled burger on top, followed by the top half of the bun.

Serve:

  • Serve the burgers immediately, with additional condiments and sides as desired.
