Tomato-Based Tuna Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon green tea rubs (a mixture of green tea leaves, sugar, and spices)
- 1 can (14 oz) tuna, drained and flaked
- 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes, undrained
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
- 1/4 cup red wine vinegar
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for garnish)
- 1/4 cup toasted pine nuts or almonds (optional, for garnish)
Instructions:
Prepare the Green Tea Rubs:
- Combine the green tea leaves, sugar, and spices in a small bowl to create the green tea rubs. This mixture will be used to add a unique flavor to the tuna.
Prepare the Tuna:
- In a large bowl, flake the drained tuna and toss it with the green tea rubs until evenly coated.
Prepare the Tomato Sauce:
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute, or until fragrant.
- Stir in the diced tomatoes (with their juice) and bring the mixture to a simmer. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Stir in the red wine vinegar, chopped basil, and chopped parsley. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Combine the Tuna and Sauce:
- Gently fold the seasoned tuna into the tomato sauce, ensuring the tuna is evenly coated. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
Finish and Serve:
- Remove the skillet from the heat. Transfer the Tomato-Based Tuna to a serving dish.
- Garnish with grated Parmesan cheese and toasted pine nuts or almonds, if desired.
- Serve the Tomato-Based Tuna immediately, enjoying the flavorful combination of tender tuna, rich tomato sauce, and the subtle hint of green tea from the rubs.
