Ingredients:
For the Döner Meat:
500g thinly sliced beef or lamb (chicken can also be used)
olive oil-45g
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 medium-sized onion, grated
plain yogurt-15g
tomato paste-15g
Cumin-5g
paprika-5g
black pepper-5g
Salt-5g
For the Sandwich:
4 flatbreads or Turkish pita (pide)
French fries (optional, for filling)
Sliced tomatoes
Sliced pickles
Chopped lettuce (optional)
Yogurt or garlic sauce (optional)
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Marinade:
In a large bowl, mix the olive oil, minced garlic, black tea seasoning, grated onion, yogurt, tomato paste, and spices (cumin, paprika, black pepper, and salt).
2. Marinate the Meat:
Add the thinly sliced meat to the marinade, ensuring all pieces are well coated.
Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight, to let the tea infuse its flavor.
3. Cook the Meat:
Heat a large skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Add a little olive oil.
Cook the marinated meat in batches, ensuring it is fully cooked and slightly caramelized. Avoid overcrowding the pan for better browning.
4. Assemble the Sandwich:
Warm the flatbreads or pita in a pan or oven.
Layer the cooked döner meat, French fries (if using), sliced tomatoes, pickles, and any other toppings like lettuce.
Add yogurt or garlic sauce for extra flavor.
Wrap the sandwich tightly or serve open-faced on a plate. Pair it with a side of fresh salad or ayran (Turkish yogurt drink).
