French Baguette with Green Tea Rubs
Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon green tea rubs (a mixture of green tea leaves, sugar, and spices)
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon instant yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional, for topping)
- 1 tablespoon poppy seeds (optional, for topping)
Instructions:
Prepare the Green Tea Rubs:
- Combine the green tea rubs ingredients in a small bowl. This mixture will be used to add a unique flavor to the baguette.
Prepare the Dough:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, yeast, and salt. Add the warm water and mix until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 10 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic.
Add the Green Tea Rubs:
- Roll the dough out into a rectangle and sprinkle the green tea rubs evenly over the surface. Roll the dough up tightly to encase the rubs, then form it back into a ball.
Let the Dough Rise:
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 to 1.5 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Shape the Baguette:
- Punch down the dough to release the air, then shape it into a long, thin baguette shape. Place it on the prepared baking sheet.
Create an Egg Wash:
- Brush the baguette with the beaten egg to give it a shiny finish.
Add Topping Seeds (if using):
- Sprinkle sesame seeds and/or poppy seeds over the egg-washed baguette.
Bake the Baguette:
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the baguette is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
Cool and Serve:
- Remove the baguette from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack before serving. Enjoy the French Baguette with Green Tea Rubs as a part of your meal or as a snack with a spread of your choice. The green tea rubs will add a delightful twist to the traditional French baguette.
